More old films
Posted By BillHeise on February 27, 2009
My mother has written me a note asking whether or not the name William Heise (noted in yesterday’s post) is historical, or was I just making it up to be funny. No, Mom, it’s all too real. My namesake even has an article in Wikipedia.
Anyway, I found some more early Edison films (not by William Heise) that I thought you might be interested in.
Here is my favorite of the bunch, Professor Welton and his Boxing Cats:
How long do you think it took the noble professor to tie the boxing gloves onto those poor cats. And to what scientific purpose?
There are links to others. All of them are even more spectacularly offensive than yesterday’s films. I have ordered them in terms of their offensiveness (least to greatest; all rankings are subjective, of course):
- A Street Arab
- Sandow (a bodybuilder) in 1894. Nice package, Sandow!
- The World’s Oldest Dirty Jokes. I don’t get it.
- The Gordon Sisters Boxing. This one takes a while to load, but it’s worth it. Women beating the cr*p out of each other.
- Cockfighting. Cocks beating the cr*p out of each other.
- Treloar and Miss Marshall, Prize Winners at the Physical Culture Show, Also takes a while to load; also worth the wait.
