I’ve always been sort of a bore, and when people ask me what my favorite thing to read it is or what single book I would take to read on a desolate desert island, I invariably answer the Works of William Shakespeare. This is because I think that Shakespeare has done more to capture the essence of the human experience than almost any other writer.
Now we can debate they whether or not I think that William Shakespeare is equivalent to the human experience itself. I do not believe that for a second. I’m just saying that Shakespeare gets closer than almost any other author.
I used to have a fantasy that if I could travel back in time that I would be able to go to the Globe theater for the first performance of Hamlet. Later in life (post-stroke), I wrote a biographical book on the life of William Shakespeare, which is sitting next to me in the floor and which I’m planning on publishing sometime next year (fingers crossed).
