What I’m Listening to This Week: Maura O’Connell

Posted By on August 31, 2009

I was talking my friend Larry the other day and he and I agreed that we both loved the soundtrack of O Brother, Where Are Thou?

One of my favorite artists on that soundtrack is Maura O’Connell, a singer from Ireland who came to America to work with Bela Fleck in late 1980s. I have two songs of greatest hits from her many albums (which I own). Unfortunately, there’s not much of her work on YouTube. This is a shame, but we have to work with what we have to work with. So here is Maura O’Connell singing one of my favorite songs, “Summerfly”:

If you want to listen to more of Maura and have a Napster or an iTunes account, I recommend the following:

First You Cry (Blues, from the album Blue Is the Color of Hope)
Teddy O’Neill (from Wandering Home)
Love’s Old Sweet Song (from Just in Time)
The Water is Wide (from Just in Time)
The Scholar (from Just in Time)

These are among my top 5 favorite songs. Just a suggestion.
