If you’ve never heard of the band (and c’mon, we all Americans here; no one’s heard of them), Wikipedia reports that “Nightwish is Finland’s most successful band with more than 7 million albums & singles sold worldwide, 1 silver award, 11 gold awards, and 31 platinum awards.” I don’t know what any of those awards are, but they sound impressive.

The front woman is a woman named Tarja Turunen. Wikipedia reports that “Tarja is Finland’s most successful singer, with 3 gold awards and 1 platinum award, having been called ‘the voice of Finland” by Tarja Halonen, the Finnish president.’” She’s also very tall.

This song is called Wishmaster. This song is huge in Europe, although like Florence and her Machine, they never made it here. It’s one of those mystical metal songs (in the vein of Edgar Allen Poe, Tolkein, and Jimmy Page). I don’t know what it’s about, but I can’t get the melody out of my head.
