Mandy Patinkin

One of the best concerta I ever saw was in Champaign, IL, when my wife dragged me off to see Mandy Patinkin. I had nor idea who he was at the time. He sang a whole bunch of really old songs, and yet I thought they were great. We bought his album and listened to it forever.

This week I was reminded of that old album, so I went looking for some of my favorites on YouTube. I found these really old videotapes of The Late Show with David Letterman on CBS, where he and Tony Randall would run into the studio, interrupt Dave’s show with an excuse about how their car broke down and Mandy needs a place to rehearse.

I have been listening to them all week, so I thought I’d share them with you.

I suspect that the second video is actually the first performance, given the moments of nervous laughter, but I really don’t know and the first clip has the whole lead in. The first video is of Rock a Bye Your Baby:

The second video is of Mandy singing Brother Can You Spare a Dime.

Yes, I realize that they are corny, but I really enjoy corny music (in case you didn’t notice).
