Nigel Tufnel

If anybody is interested, here is my favorite parody of the music I grew up listening to in my teens. This was long before Christopher Guest was famous as a member of Spinal Tap, (listed on Amazon as starring Fran Drescher for some reason).

The principle of his work as Nigel Tufnel is the same here: he is interested in an out-and-out parody which nevertheless travels so close to the actual music that the listener can’t tell where parody begins and serious music ends. Guest is helped out by Paul Shaffer. I still think of this song when I think of high school, and I’m glad that someone finally got around to putting on YouTube.

There’s a bit of history and a lyrics sheet for the song here. Enjoy!
